* Beginning in August 2026, age groups will shift to an August 1 – July 31 cycle.

This means:

• August 1 – December 31 births: Players will generally “move down” an age group to join their grade-level peers.

• January 1 – July 31 births: Players will typically “move up” a year earlier than they would have under the old system.

The Goal: This change is designed to better align players with their school-grade classmates, reducing the number of “trapped” players who are separated from friends during the high school season.

 Timeline & Impact

• 2026-2027 Season: This is when the new school-year realignment will officially take effect for all leagues and cup competitions, including State Cups and National Championships.

For more detailed information, you can view the official U.S. Soccer Player Age Group Tool to see how this impacts your child’s future season.*”
